The London Samatha Centre Appeal

Samatha meditation has been taught and practiced in London for over 40 years!

The first ever Samatha Meditation class in England was started by Nai Boonman Poonyathiro in 1963 at the Hamstead Buddhist Vihara. Other classes then started in Cambridge and later Manchester, and people have continued developing Samatha practice to the present day.

In London, many different venues have been used for meditation classes and groups; libraries, community centres, Quaker meeting houses, and meditators homes.

We now wish to establish a more permanent base for London Samatha groups. Accordingly, we have decided to launch an appeal to raise funds with the goal of opening a London Samatha Centre.

If you would like to contribute, you can do so by a one-off gift or by a regular payment.
Cheques should be made payable to “The Samatha Trust (London appeal)” and sent to:

The Treasurer, Samatha Trust,
10 Maple Avenue, Chorlton,
Manchester, M21 8BD.

Regular donations to the appeal are especially welcome.
For more information, or to obtain a donation form, email the London Appeal Coordinator at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
