Samatha meditation has been taught and practiced in London since 1963. Over that time many locations and venues have been used, and we are now raising funds to establish a more permanent home for London Samatha practice. Please click on the leaf for information on the London Samatha Centre Appeal:

Beginners Classes
There are currently four beginners Samatha meditation classes in the London area:
1 - Central London, at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Russell Square, on Wednesday evenings,
2 - Richmond on Thursday evenings,
3 - Uxbridge on Thursday evenings,
See below for details on each class.
The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)
The SOAS Centre for Buddhist Studies hosts a weekly meditation class during university term time.
Classes begin again on Wednesday May 21st 2008, 6pm-8:30pm.
Room G3, main SOAS Campus, Russell Square.
Teaching is free, and all are welcome. If you wish, bring a cushion to sit on. Contact Stefania (Email: stefaniamenin@hotmail.com) for further information.
SOAS
SOAS (The School of Oriental and African Studies), is part of the University of London. The nearest tube is Russell Square.

Samatha Meditation in Richmond
Classes are open to all. No previous experience of meditation is required - beginners are welcome. Please feel free to join the class any week.
There is no charge for teaching, but we welcome donations to cover the cost of the room hire. Please bring a cushion which can comfortably support you when you are sitting in a cross-legged position.
During the class, there is usually a talk, some discussion and a group meditation practice. Because everybody's experience of meditation is different, there is an opportunity each week to speak to the teacher one-to-one, before or after the class.
The class is every Thursday evening from 8pm at:
Richmond Friends Meeting House,
1 Retreat Road,
Richmond Upon Thames,
Surrey, TW9 1NN.
The Friends Meeting House in Richmond is easily accessible by public transport. It is close to the bus stops on George Street for buses such as No. 65 from Kingston or from Ealing via Kew, 490 or R70 from Twickenham, or H37 from St Margaret's. It is a five minute walk from the Richmond tube/rail station on Kew Road or from the bus station where buses such as 337 from Putney/Sheen, 493 from Roehampton or 33 from Barnes stop.
If you are coming by car, there is a public car park close by on Friars Lane which fills quickly in the evening; it may be easier to find a space in the Old Deer Park car park off the A316.
